Evening Performances

All shows are at the Valdez Civic Center and are FREE to the public.

Tuesday, June 10, at 8:00 p.m., the Midnight Summit Ensemble presents Alaskan playwright Kristen Ritter’s Blanche Stuart Scott, directed by Kalli Denali Randall. It’s 1910 and the future is now! Blanche Stuart Scott decides she must become one of the first women to drive across the entire country, and nothing—not outlaws, not girl scouts, not even Gertie, her cynical reporter companion for the journey—will prevent her from going down in the history books. But when the women pick up a mysterious third passenger, will they be able to get the Model 38 Overland across the finish line? A historical-ish comedy about the literal lengths women must go to be recognized in their time.

Thursday, June 12, at 8:00 p.m., we will have present Sometimes I Think About Dying, starring Daisy Ridley and written by Conference regular Kevin Armento, based on his play from the 2013 Play Lab, killers. Lost on the dreary Oregon coast, Fran (Ridley) finds solace in her cubicle, listening to the constant hum of officemates and occasionally daydreaming to pass the time. She is ghosting through life, unable to pop her bubble of isolation, when a friendly new coworker, Robert (David Merheje), persistently tries to connect with her. Though it goes against every fiber of her being, she may have to give this guy a chance.

Saturday, June 14, there are two daytime presentations. At 1:00 p.m., the Monologue Workshop will feature over 30 performers presenting the product of their week’s study, one-minute monologues written by the playwrights participating in this year’s Play Lab. At 2:30 p.m., the Ten-Minute Play Slam will present six short plays in a staged reading format. Both of these performances are invariably awesome and fun and a great way to spend an afternoon in the theatre.
